About: After learning basic video editing skills to compete in the online media package category at the JEA/NSPA convention my sophomore year, I decided to attempt video editing once again. Although the story and interview are not by me, I created the entire video. After getting old footage from the football coach, I spent 6+ hours over a weekend cutting and editing footage so the video would be ready in time for the 10 year anniversary.

Proviso West beat DGN with last second buzzer beater

About: After a game-winning buzzer beater shot by the opposing team, our sports editor typed up a game story for the website. At the last second, we came up with a way to make the story even better: footage of the actual shot. Within our 50-minute class period, I uploaded the footage, edited it, and posted the video onto the web. Although the video is simple, the time span from when we first conceived the idea to when it was published shows our efforts to remain timely.

About: Pizza Wars is an event that occurs right around first semester final exams every year, and last year, in the heat of studying, I decided to create this quick story for the web. Although it was posted a little bit later than I originally hoped, writing this quick article was good practice for me since I usually only write longer form news/feature stories.

Getting to know new administrators

About: Last fall, District 99 hired a new superintendent and a new principal for DGN. With this major shift in power, I found it necessary to interview the new administrators and hopefully let the student body get to know them through the article. Although this article was published in the print edition, the online version not only allowed for more content that didn't fit on the print page but also made the article more accessible to students through social media.
